Celebrate Holi, the festival of colors with Apple Gujiyas. This delicious fusion recipe is packed with the goodness of apples.

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp semolina
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp ghee

For the stuffing

  • 2 apples
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 4 tbsp desiccated coconut
  • 2 tbsp chopped nuts of your choice
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the dough by mixing together flour, semolina, salt and ghee. Rub the ghee in until you get a breadcrumb consistency.
  • Knead it into a tight dough using water. Allow it to rest for 15-20 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add in the finely chopped apples and cook for a minute. Make sure they do not sweat.
  • Add in the powdered sugar, cinnamon powder, cardamom powder, chopped nuts, and salt. Mix well. Turn off the heat and let it cool.
  • Once it is cooled, add in the dessicated coconut and mix well.
  • Shape the dough into small balls. Roll them out 3 to 4 inches in diameter. Add in a tablespoon of the apple mixture. Apply water on the edges. Fold it over and crimp the edges. You can also use a gujiya mould.
  • Deep fry the gujiya on low heat until they colorize. If you fry them on high heat, they would not be crisp and will have blistered skin.
  • The Apple Gujiyas are ready to serve. Brush them with honey for added flavor.
